Chapter 7 – Pressing Past the Pain of Feelings

Wow…this chapter… it really hits home because I can pinpoint the exact moments in my life that caused so much hurt and fear. I want so badly to let stuff go because I can really see how all of this stuff effects my relationships today.

    Chapter 7
Emotional pain is often more devastating than physical
The root cause of an approval addiction is usually an emotional wound
Jesus wants to heal your emotional wound
    Making Right Choices
We must do right and keep doing things right and press past how we feel about it
We must choose to treat people right who have hurt us because Jesus told us to (Matthew 5:38-44)
Forgive them and treat them as if nothing happened and you will be free from the pain (Matthew 6:14-15)
I must do the right thing even though I am still hurting
As long as we stay angry, we keep our pain
    Discipline is Required
Righteousness or doing what is right is a fruit that yields peace into our lives (Hebrews 2:11)
Don’t allow your past to ruin your future
You Are Not the Only One
Stand firm in faith because the same sufferings are happening to our anointed brothers and sisters (1 Peter 5:9)
Intelligence and talent are God’s gifts, but character is developed
We pay so much attention to not getting hurt that we can’t develop good relationships with people
We should be willing to give ourselves away and lay down our lives for others (John 15:13)
    The Promise of Reward
Many people of the Bible had to endure to receive their promised reward
God is the rewarder of those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6)
Being negative only makes a difficult journey more difficult
    The Pain of Disapproval
Approval addicts attempt to relive the pain by doing whatever people want them to do
Don’t fight with addictions, but just refuse to feed them
    Breaking the Cycle of Addiction
Replace one addiction with another , become addicted to Jesus!
Prayer releases power into our lives
Receiving supernatural strength from God is a real key to success
Lean on God in everything and for everything
Set Your Mind and Keep It
Set our mind on things above, not earthly things (Colossians 3:2)
We must be armed with right thinking or we will give up during hard times
    The Pain of Loneliness
Fear of being lonely can turn us into people-pleasers
Loneliness is a result of not liking ourselves more than it is not having people around us
Knowing that Jesus understands you brings you closer to Him
